About
In 2020, Centre College and the Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) partnered to create a farm on the KSD property. KSD & Centre College Sustainable Farms and Gardens provides a wide variety of local organic produce to Centre College’s dining services and to local not-for-profit organizations, while serving as a living classroom for Centre and KSD students. Volunteers must follow KSD Farm's food safety plan and procedure for the removal, washing, and delivery of the produce. Details can be found under the "Documents" tab.
The land has been used for agriculture or remained vacant since the 1950s. The surrounding land use is mainly empty grassland, with some residential and a school building. Runoff from the nearby roads is mitigated by a large grass buffer, and runoff from the upper plot (east) to the lower plot (west) is blocked by a large catchment.
Volunteer Notes
- dress comfortably, long sleeves are recommended (some plants may have protective prickly vines that may irritate skin)
- bring sunscreen and bug repellent
- bring plenty of water
